Best Cultural Attractions in Benidorm
Benidorm Old Town:
This town is situated aside the promontory that separates the two Benidorm beaches. The Cerro Canfali headland that is full of narrow lanes and alleys converges in the light-filled BalcóndelMediterráneo belvedere, whitewashed and decorated with blue tiles.An ornamental motif which finds repetition along the balustrade stretches of the seafront of Benidorm will surely catch your eye.
Balcon del Mediterraneo:
BalcondelMediterraneo is situated on top of the rock separating the two beaches of Benidorm. This was the fortress built to defend the people from the Algerian pirates’ raids during the fourteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. History buffs will find this place mesmerising.
San Jaime Church:
San Jaime Church is not merely for the Christians. This magnificent structure with a blue-tiled domed roof is an 18th century Parish church dedicated to the patron saint of Benidorm, the Virgen del Sufragio. It is set at the very top of the Old Town on a hill called Canfali and it will surely take your breath away. The Virgin has her own small chapel containing the little wood sculpture which, as the story goes, was found on a boat adrift on the high seas.
Maritime Cultural Centre:
This is a small house that contains an exhibition of model ships and other nautical exhibits including fishing boats, anchors and knots to remember the great maritime ventures of the Benidorm seamen done in the past. This is a free perk for the connoisseurs of ships.
The L'Aiguera Park:
The L'Aiguera Park houses both the park and another well-known structure, the Town Hall, colloquially known as the ‘floorscraper’. This unique structure has piqued the interest of many architects and a lot of people come to visit it. The building is like a bridge and itacts as a doorway to the green zone L'Aiguera Park. This 'horizontal skyscraper' is supported by four pillars.
Inside is a long green park in neoclassical style. This park separates the old quarter of Benidorm from the newer buildings. There are two amphitheatres here and they are used for shows and cultural events, especially during summer season.
El Tossal de La Cala:
El Tossal de La Cala is an Iberian settlement and it is one of the nicest cultural sights of Benidorm. Located at the far end of Poniente beach in Benidorm, the surrounding hill at the end of Benidorm bay was settled in the late Iberian period between 3rd to 1st Century B.C.
